Compare UK Garage Management Software (2026)

An honest side-by-side. Pricing as of May 2026, features as published or reviewed.

Most “best garage software” lists are written either by the vendor themselves or by an affiliate site that gets paid to put one product first. This page isn’t that. We’re going to walk through the main UK garage management systems, including ours, and tell you what each one does well, where each costs more than its headline suggests, and where the real differences live.

If you’re thinking about Torqueflow, we’d rather you choose us with eyes open than choose us by accident.

This page is the head-to-head comparison. For a plain-English primer, read our guide to garage software; for a ranked shortlist, see the best UK garage management software, ranked. Torqueflow itself is garage management software built for UK independents.

Core garage workflow

The basics. This table was rebuilt on 2026-08-31 by going back to each vendor’s own website and checking every cell, because the version before it said “Yes” in almost every box and a bare “Yes” reads as “included, at no extra cost”. We could not stand behind that for most of these.

How to read the cells:

  • Included means the vendor’s own site states it is in the base subscription.
  • A tier name means it is stated, but only from that tier up.
  • Add-on means it is stated as costing extra.
  • Claimed, no detail means the vendor says they do it in marketing copy but publishes nothing about tier or cost.
  • Not published means we could not find it stated on the vendor’s own site. That is not the same as the vendor not having it. Ask them, and ask what it costs.

Three things this exercise turned up, and one of them was ours.

We had “Yes” against eVHC and video capture in our own column. Neither is true. Torqueflow has findings with photos, reusable checklists and severity-badged quotes that customers approve in the portal, which covers most of what a garage wants from a health check, but there is no branded VHC module and video walkarounds are not built. Both cells are corrected above.

Multi-location was the worst of the rest. We had a flat “Yes” for all six. In fact MyGarageCRM gates it to their top tier, GarageRevs does not mention it anywhere, and TechMan and AutoChain both say they do it without publishing what it costs. If you run two sites, that is a question to take into every demo you book, ours included.

And check AutoChain’s add-ons against their site yourself rather than against this page. The £15/month module prices we recorded in May 2026 are not on their current site, and we have since seen our own figures quoted back at us by third-party comparison articles. A number does not become true by being repeated.

The closest UK alternatives for AI voice are standalone AI receptionist services like Electronic Receptionist or Lineshift. Those are separate products that sit alongside your garage management software - two systems, two logins, data living in two places. Torqueflow is the only product where the AI receptionist is part of the same system that runs your workshop.

The hygiene-credits philosophy: where vendors split into two camps

This is the comparison angle most buying guides skip. UK GMS has split into two distinct philosophies on how to handle the hygiene tasks every garage runs daily - DVLA lookups, MOT data refresh, SMS reminders, mailshots:

Philosophy A · Hygiene included

The operations that have no real per-event cost are bundled into the subscription.

You can run your day without watching a credit meter.

Philosophy B · Hygiene metered

You pay credits or per-event fees for routine lookups, reminders, and mailshots on top of the subscription.

The headline price is rarely what the bill ends up at.

Ahygiene included

Only AI features (voice, WhatsApp AI, SMS AI, diagnostics) - the things that have a real per-call compute cost.

TechMan
Bhygiene metered

DVLA lookups, MOT data refresh, mailshots and SMS reminders reportedly require credits per user reviews; telephone integration and web booking are tier-gated.

Motasoft VGM
Bhygiene metered

VRM lookups at 9p each, SMS at 6p each, motor-trade website at +£25/mo.

MAM Autowork Online
Baccounting metered

No built-in accounting - requires Xero (£14–£36/mo) or a Sage subscription on top.

Garage Hive
Bper-user metered

Microsoft Business Central licence at £61.50–£84.60 per user / month on top of the subscription, plus reported setup fees in the thousands.

MyGarageCRM
Ahygiene included

Free data migration; no metered hygiene.

GarageRevs

SMS overage past tier allowance (8p / 6p / 4p per SMS by tier); HaynesPro at £100+VAT per 1,000 tokens if used.

AutoChain
Ahygiene included

Add-on modules at £15/month each (parts management, tyre management, SMS reminders); £39.99/month for OEM technical data.

The principle behind Torqueflow's model

Credits exist - we use them too - but only for AI features that actually have a real per-event compute cost behind them (every voice call, every AI WhatsApp reply, every invoice extraction is real AI work paid to AI providers). Looking up a registration on DVLA is essentially free at the platform level, so we don't charge credits for it. Sending an SMS reminder that a staff member typed is essentially free at the platform level, so we don't charge credits for it. We charge credits where the cost is real and we don't where it isn't.

For more on how Torqueflow's credits work in practice, see What are AI credits? and How credits are consumed by feature.

Torqueflow sits at £2,988 a year paying monthly, or £2,490 on annual. That puts us above the entry-tier rows and below the Flexi icebergs, with no upfront fee, no per-user licences and no add-on modules waiting behind it. AI credit usage sits on top and scales with how busy you are. The thing worth noticing is what happens to that number on the next table. Ours doesn't move.

Torqueflow Other vendors Reference customer (TechMan Pro) Year-1 upfront fee component

The pattern at 7 bays: the established players' upper tiers run from TechMan Pro Partner at ~£5,580-£5,820 (what Peter, the 7-bay reference customer, was previously paying) up to the Pro Flexi iceberg at ~£8,368 in Year 1 with its £1,300 upfront. Torqueflow is £2,988 a year paying monthly, or £2,490 on annual. That is the same number as the 3-bay table, because four extra bays don't change it. AI usage sits on top of it. What that figure buys that no row above does: an AI receptionist that handles ~70% of inbound calls and AI auto-replies on every messaging channel - work that would otherwise require a £10-22k/year human hire. No upfront fee, no per-user licences.

This is the "vs your next hire" framing in spreadsheet form: a garage-software subscription vs the £22k/year a UK receptionist costs, with most of the receptionist's job actually being done.

Where each vendor genuinely wins

TechMan wins when
  • You value an established install base for governance or risk reasons. TechMan claims 17,000+ automotive professionals use it, which is their own figure rather than an audited one, but nobody disputes they’re the most-installed system here.
  • Your team is already trained on TechMan and the change-management cost is genuinely high.
Garage Hive wins when
  • You’re already a Microsoft Business Central shop and want garage software that lives inside that platform.
  • You value a strong community and case-study volume above sticker price.
  • Your accountant is already comfortable with Business Central financial workflows.
MyGarageCRM wins when
  • You sell cars as well as fix them. Their Enterprise tier carries a car sales module. Torqueflow does not have one, and this is the clearest thing on this page that a competitor does and we don’t.
  • You want a 28-day trial and free data migration from 28+ systems.
  • You already have a feature-set wishlist and MyGarageCRM hits it without you needing AI. Check the tier caps first: staff users and customer records are both limited below Enterprise.
GarageRevs wins when
  • You’re a 3-8 bay independent and the lower flat-tier rate works out cheaper at your size.
  • You want founder-led onboarding and explicit “no per-user fees, no lock-in” framing.
  • You don’t need AI features yet and think the price gap to AI-first products is too big to bridge.
AutoChain wins when
  • You’re a 1-2 bay shop who wants the absolute lowest price for core garage management without AI.
  • You’re happy with add-on modules at £15/month each as you grow.
Motasoft VGM wins when
  • You’re a smaller shop and the £50/month entry price is unbeatable in your evaluation.
  • You’re willing to manage credits for VRM lookups and SMS in exchange for a lower base subscription.
Torqueflow wins when
  • The phone is your bottleneck. You’re missing calls at lunchtime, during the school run and every evening after five, and you can’t justify £22k a year for someone to pick them up. The AI answers every call, day or night. It knows who’s ringing, reads the live job, and when a caller wants work doing it asks how soon they need it, checks your real diary and offers them actual dates, morning or afternoon. You get a written summary with the time they picked and one tap to confirm it. Most AI receptionists take a message. This one has the diary open in front of it.
  • Your customers would rather message than ring. WhatsApp, SMS and the portal all land in one inbox, and the AI answers the status questions and handles quote approvals before you’ve got to them. Anything it can’t deal with comes straight to you.
  • You’re paying credits for things that shouldn’t cost anything. DVLA lookups, MOT history refresh, SMS reminders and mailshots are included. Credits only cover AI work that has a real compute cost behind it. If you’ve ever watched a credit balance drain on a Tuesday morning of routine registration lookups, that difference is the whole argument.
  • You want the bill to stop moving. £249 a month covers every feature, every member of staff, every bay and every site. Take on a technician, open a second unit, put another ramp in, and the number stays where it is. Look at the two tables above: every other vendor’s figure moves between the 3-bay shop and the 7-bay shop. Ours doesn’t.
  • You run a van as well as the workshop. Tell Torqueflow which postcode areas the van covers and what it costs to get there. Customers in those areas book a mobile visit online with the callout charge quoted before they commit, and anyone outside gets offered the workshop or a callback instead. Driving time is reserved either side of the visit so the diary tells the truth about the day. Phone bookings get the same coverage check and the same quote.
  • You’re losing customers and only finding out months later. MOT and service reminders, lapsed-customer alerts, re-engagement campaigns and review requests that fill your Google profile, with a retention score on each customer and the whole picture on the owner’s dashboard. Most systems tell you what happened last week. This one tells you who isn’t coming back.
  • Your online booking is really an email form. The booking widget checks a bay-capability matrix against the live diary, so a customer can only pick a slot your workshop can actually do. No back and forth to find out the right ramp was never free. It works embedded on your site, as a hosted page, or in the customer portal, and it takes a deposit if you want one.
  • Supplier invoices are eating an afternoon a week. Forward the email, the PDF or a photo off your phone, and the line items come off it and match to the parts on the job in 30 to 60 seconds instead of 3 to 5 minutes of typing.
  • You want manufacturer data in the bay, not in another tab. Haynes Pro repair times drop into quotes and invoices as labour lines at your rate, service schedules come pre-filled down to lubricant quantities, and colour manufacturer drawings with the torque figures on them sit on the technician’s job card, on 2,290 of the 2,291 vehicle types we measured. Wiring is there too, and it’s picked properly: search the circuit by name, and Torqueflow uses the car’s own registration to put the right-hand-drive version for that build date in front of you rather than a diagram drawn for another market. How much wiring a manufacturer holds varies a lot by make, so that one is a precision claim rather than a coverage claim. Everything prints with the registration on the sheet.
  • You want to see it before you talk to a salesperson. Start a 30-day trial yourself and set it up, or book a demo and we’ll set it up with you on the call. Full features either way, running on your own jobs rather than a sandbox full of sample data.
  • You’re coming off TechMan. Customers, vehicles and history import directly, with a rollback if anything looks wrong. Everything else comes across by CSV or Excel export, which is more work but it’s honest work.
  • Half your team or your customer base speaks Polish at home. The whole app runs in English or Polish. It’s not a glossary bolted onto an English product, so a technician reads the job card in the language they think in.

Torqueflow is the wrong choice when

The other side of the same page. If any of these is a hard requirement, buy something else. We'd rather you found out here than three weeks into a trial.

  • You sell cars as well as fix them. There's no forecourt or vehicle sales module. It's intended, it isn't built, and "not yet" is the honest answer rather than "coming soon".
  • You run a loyalty or membership scheme. No loyalty module and no recurring membership billing. If your business model is 200 customers on a monthly service plan, we can't run that for you today.
  • You want fault codes read off the car. The AI diagnostic assistant reasons from symptoms, photos and job history. It doesn't plug into the vehicle and it doesn't replace your diagnostic kit.
  • You work on a make whose manufacturer wiring data is thin. Wiring diagrams are in, but how much the manufacturer holds swings wildly between makes, and no software vendor can conjure data the manufacturer never published. Ask us to check your top three makes before you commit.
  • Your accounts live in Sage or QuickBooks. Xero is the live two-way integration and it syncs in under a minute. Sage, QuickBooks and FreeAgent are on the roadmap, which is not the same as being in the product.
  • AutoData is the reference your technicians reach for. Torqueflow has Haynes Pro built in, but no AutoData. TechMan and Garage Hive both carry it.
  • A long track record is what reassures you. Torqueflow is new in 2026 and growing. TechMan claims 17,000+ professionals on its platform and Garage Hive has years of case studies behind it. Those are their own published figures rather than audited ones, but the scale gap is real either way, and no feature table is going to settle it for you.
  • You want unlimited AI at a fixed price. Every voice call and every invoice scan is computational work with a real cost behind it, so usage past your monthly allowance is metered. Bundling it would mean charging every garage the heavy user's rate.
  • You're outside the UK. VAT treatment, MOT rules, DVLA and DVSA data are all built around UK garages, and UK independents are who we sell to.

Frequently asked

The questions that come up.

Anything else, drop us a line - we’ll answer plainly. No “contact sales for pricing”.

We've covered the most-evaluated UK GMS systems above (TechMan, Garage Hive, MyGarageCRM, GarageRevs, AutoChain) plus a "Other UK options" section noting Motasoft, MAM Autowork, Dragon2000, GDS, WorkAuto, Mentor and AGN. If a relevant vendor is missing, contact us and we'll add them.

Pricing and feature data captured 2026-05-03 from each vendor's published pricing page or current 2026 buying-guide articles. Where pricing is "POA" (Mentor, AGN, partial Garage Hive) we've noted that and used independent reviewer estimates where available. Specific feature claims are based on vendor websites and review platforms; functionality may have changed since.

Yes, in the sense that we wrote it. We've tried to keep the bias-meter dialled down by being explicit about where each vendor genuinely wins and by quoting sourced figures rather than vague claims. If you spot a factual error, contact us and we'll correct it.

Head to a vendor-specific comparison page: Torqueflow vs TechMan, Torqueflow vs Garage Hive, Torqueflow vs AutoChain. Each goes into more detail on switching, migration, and feature parity.

Start a trial with the two or three you're seriously considering. Run real bookings through each for a week. The comparison page will only get you so far - the day-to-day feel of each system, and how your team takes to it, is the deciding factor. With Torqueflow you can do that two ways: book a demo and we set you up (importing your existing records is optional), or start a self-serve 30-day trial for £1.

Ready to test it?

Run real bookings through Torqueflow for a month. If it's not for you, walk away. No awkward cancellation calls, no retention offers, no hassle.

Torqueflow is the only product where the AI voice receptionist lives inside the garage and workshop management system. It knows the customer, knows their vehicle, knows the job status - because it's all one system.
