Card Payments for Garages

Charge the card at the desk. The invoice pays itself.

A customer’s at the front desk, keys in hand, ready to pay by card. On most systems that means a separate card machine, a total typed in twice, and a payment you’ll match against the invoice later tonight if you remember. Two devices, two records, one more job for future-you.

Torqueflow charges the card straight from the invoice. Connect a TakePayments terminal, open the invoice, tap Charge card terminal, and hand the customer the device. They insert their card, enter the PIN, and the invoice flips to Paid with the receipt attached. The payment’s recorded against the job the moment it’s approved. No second total, no reconciling, nothing to forget.

How it works

Charge an invoice. The rest happens on its own.

Four taps from balance due to Paid, with the receipt filed and the payment posted against the job.

1

Charge from the invoice

Open the invoice in Torqueflow and tap Charge card terminal. The amount’s already filled in from the balance.

2

The terminal takes the payment

Hand the customer the device. They insert or tap their card and enter the PIN. Within seconds it’s approved.

3

The receipt prints

The customer gets their receipt, and a copy lands on the invoice in Torqueflow automatically.

4

The payment posts itself

The invoice flips to Paid and the payment is recorded against the job the moment it’s approved. Nothing to reconcile.

No separate machine

Charge from the invoice, not a separate machine

Open any unpaid invoice, tap Charge card terminal, pick the device, and the amount’s already filled in from the balance. Hand it over. The customer taps or inserts their card, enters the PIN, and within seconds the invoice is Paid. The receipt lands on the invoice automatically.

Because the charge starts from the invoice, the payment can only attach to the right job. There’s no “which invoice was that £180 for?” at the end of the day.

A second payment rail

A second way to take cards

TakePayments sits alongside Stripe as a second payment rail, and there are good reasons to run both.

A solid backup

Auto-repair is a trade some card processors treat as higher risk, so a TakePayments terminal is a solid backup if a processor ever offboards you.

Lower fees at volume

On high card volume the terminal fees can work out lower, so running both lets you route payments the cheaper way.

Some customers just want to tap

And some customers simply want to tap a card at the desk, rather than pay online or by link.

For paying online or by link instead, that’s online payments with Stripe. Front desk or payment link, one record either way.

Frequently asked questions

Yes. You need an active TakePayments merchant account and their Integrated Payments credentials, which your TakePayments account manager provides. You connect them once in Settings.

The PAX A920 Pro and the Ingenico Move 5000. Both run over WiFi or 4G.

Yes, as long as you start the charge from the invoice in Torqueflow. The invoice flips to Paid and the receipt is filed automatically. A payment taken directly on the device, without going through Torqueflow, won’t attach to the invoice on its own.

Yes. Plenty of garages run both: the terminal for the front desk, Stripe links for customers paying remotely.
