Comparison · AutoChain alternative

Torqueflow vs AutoChain.

Two flat prices, a long way apart. What the difference actually buys, and when it isn’t worth it.

AutoChain is the newer challenger in UK garage software – aggressive at £69.99/month for the core system, with a strong customer-acquisition marketplace and modular add-ons. Torqueflow is also a newer entrant, and we lead on a different angle: AI features built deeply into the product.

If you’re between these two, the choice usually comes down to garage size, AI appetite, and whether you’d rather have a customer-acquisition marketplace or a Voice AI receptionist. This page is the honest pros-and-cons.

Where Torqueflow wins

Five places we’d pick Torqueflow.

Torqueflow advantages

AI features are core, not on the roadmap

Voice AI receptionist, AI invoice scanning, AI auto-response across every channel – Torqueflow ships these today. AutoChain doesn’t have AI as a major part of its current product. If “AI handles my admin” is the headline reason to switch software, Torqueflow is the choice.

One price, every feature

Torqueflow is £249 a month plus VAT. Every feature, every member of staff, any number of bays, any number of sites. Voice AI, parts and stock, supplier management, SMS, the customer portal, Xero, Haynes Pro data, the marketing system. Nothing to bolt on and nothing gated behind a tier. AI usage beyond your monthly allowance is metered on top, because every voice call is real computational work with a real cost behind it.

AutoChain’s £69.99 core plan includes more than we used to give them credit for. We checked their site again on 1 September 2026: parts management and tyre management are both in the core plan, not add-ons. What they publish as extra is SMS reminders at £15 a month and Haynes Pro technical data at £49.99 a month. So a garage that wants SMS and manufacturer data is at about £135 a month with AutoChain, not the £130-plus-and-climbing figure this page used to imply from a set of add-on prices they no longer publish.

Live Xero sync

Two-way live sync with sub-minute push and webhook-driven payment events. AutoChain’s accounting integration story is less prominent on their public pages.

Polish-language UI

The UK auto trade has a lot of Polish-speaking owners and mechanics. Torqueflow’s staff dashboard and customer portal are fully translated. AutoChain is English-only.

The price doesn’t move

Both products charge per system rather than per bay or per seat, so neither punishes you for growing. The difference is what arrives with the price. Torqueflow’s £249 is the whole product at any size, including the AI, and the only thing that varies is metered AI usage. With AutoChain you start much lower and add SMS and technical data if you want them.

Where AutoChain wins

And four places we’d pick AutoChain.

AutoChain advantages

Cheaper, and not by a little

AutoChain’s core plan is £69.99 a month against our £249. That is roughly a third of our price for a system that does the core garage job properly, and now that parts and tyres are in their core plan the gap is wider than this page used to admit. If the monthly number is what decides it, AutoChain wins and we would rather say so plainly. Our answer is not that we are cheaper. It is that £249 includes an AI receptionist doing work you would otherwise hire someone to do.

Customer-acquisition marketplace

AutoChain’s “Win More Customers” feature is a marketplace where drivers can find and book your garage directly. Torqueflow doesn’t have an equivalent. We focus on serving the customers you already have rather than generating new ones. If you specifically want lead-generation built in, AutoChain has that today.

Faster account creation

AutoChain advertises “5 min average setup time” for the initial account. Torqueflow’s full setup is measured in a couple of hours (configuring bays, branding, Voice AI persona, importing data). For just-spinning-up-a-trial-quickly, AutoChain’s claim is shorter.

You only pay for what you switch on

AutoChain publishes what each extra costs and lets you leave it off. If you have no use for SMS reminders or manufacturer data, you don’t pay for them. Torqueflow has no equivalent choice: the price is the price whether you use the Voice AI every day or never turn it on. For a garage that genuinely wants a small subset of the product, that is a real argument against us.

When to pick which

The short version, in five bullets each.

Pick Torqueflow if…

  • You want AI features (voice receptionist, invoice scanning, auto-response) doing real work for you.
  • The phone going unanswered is costing you more than the price difference.
  • Live Xero sync is important.
  • You want manufacturer repair times, service schedules and wiring diagrams without a separate subscription for them.
  • Your team or customers include Polish speakers.
AC

Pick AutoChain if…

  • The monthly price is the deciding factor. £69.99 against £249 is not a close call.
  • You specifically want a built-in customer-acquisition marketplace.
  • You want to pay only for the pieces you switch on.
  • AI features aren’t a priority for you right now.

Pricing in practice

What you’d actually pay, side by side.

Both prices are flat, so bay count changes nothing on either side. Figures checked against AutoChain’s own site on 1 September 2026.

AutoChain is cheaper in every row where both products compete, and at core-only it is cheaper by a factor of three. The gap narrows once you add SMS and technical data, but it does not close.

What the difference buys is the row at the bottom. An AI receptionist answering every call day and night, offering callers real times from your live diary, is work that otherwise needs a person on the phone. A UK receptionist costs somewhere between £10,000 and £22,000 a year. That is the comparison worth doing, and it is a different question from which subscription is cheaper.

Frequently asked

The questions garages ask before they switch.

You could, but it’d be a strange setup. Both are full garage management systems and you’d be reconciling between them every day. Pick one.

Because there’s an AI receptionist in it, and that costs real money to run. Every voice call is computational work paid to AI providers. £249 a month plus VAT covers every feature at any size, with AI usage beyond your monthly allowance metered on top. AutoChain is a good garage management system without that layer, priced accordingly. If you don’t want the AI, you shouldn’t pay for it, and AutoChain is the cheaper system.

No. AutoChain’s “Win More Customers” feature is a real differentiator if lead generation through a Torqueflow-owned customer marketplace is what you want. We focus on tools that serve the customers you already have. The Voice AI catches the calls you’re currently missing and the customer portal makes approving a quote quick. Ours converts the demand you already have; theirs creates new demand. Different problems.

Yes. AutoChain lets you export your customer and vehicle data, and Torqueflow imports CSV and Excel from any source. We have a purpose-built importer for TechMan; everything else, AutoChain included, comes across by export and import rather than a direct adapter. Importing is optional and it can wait until you’ve decided to stay.

The initial account creation, yes. Full setup of your bays, branding, AI, integrations, and data import is a couple of hours regardless of the platform. The “5 min” figure is the time to get into a usable state with default settings and no team.

Yes, for repair times and servicing: Haynes Pro vehicle data is built in. Identify the vehicle once and Torqueflow pulls manufacturer repair times, service schedules and part categories straight into quotes and job cards. AutoChain offers Haynes Pro technical data as an add-on at £49.99 a month (their published price on 1 September 2026).
